Google Merchant Center: Missing google_product_category
Missing required attribute: google_product_categoryWhat's happening
google_product_category is optional, Google auto-classifies products that omit it, but leaving it to the algorithm is a gamble. A mis-classified product competes in the wrong auctions and can miss category-specific features. Setting it explicitly fixes the classification and is effectively required to compete well in apparel and electronics, where the auto-guess is often wrong. (It is NOT a hard ingest requirement; verified 2026-06.)
google_product_categoryproduct_typeManual fix
Look up each product's correct category in Google's taxonomy (https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/6324436), enter into CMS, export.
Fix it with Emberfeed
Use a conditional field rule keyed off your existing product_type or category field. e.g. if g:product_type starts with "Clothing" → set g:google_product_category to "Apparel & Accessories > Clothing". One mapping rule replaces hours of per-product work.
